Duplex Steel
The term “Duplex” has been coined for this type of stainless steel because it uses two phase microstructure consisting of grains of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel and combines many of the beneficial properties of the two types which in return helps in providing resistance to localized and uniform corrosion. The chemical composition of the Duplex Steel is balanced approximately to give equal amounts of ferrite and austenite in solution-annealed condition. The higher the annealing temperature degree, the higher the ferrite content in the steel taking place. Although Duplex steels are prone to precipitation to nitrides and carbides type of acids that cause embrittlement and reduced corrosion resistance. If the temperature is about 4750C, probably say in the range of 3000-5000C, it can cause embrittlement and also the decomposition of ferrite content. Duplexes have excellent ductility and toughness but they cannot reach the superior values of purity in austenitic grades.

Duplex 2205 Butt Weld Fitting Production
Duplex 2205 material, whose “Duplex” name is derived from the mixed micro-structure which has roughly equal portions of ferrite and austenite. This grade is the most popular variety and is a two-phase material containing 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5 to 6% nickel alloyed steel. This grade is a significant upgrade from 316 stainless steel in terms of both yield strength and resistance to corrosion. Duplex 2205 is the most widely used duplex stainless steel grade. The high strength makes Duplex 2205 Butt Weld Fitting useful in many applications. Cutting speeds are approximately 20% slower than for grade 304. The strength of Duplex 2205 also makes bending and forming more difficult; requiring larger capacity equipment than for austenitic stainless steels. Duplex Supply Inc has the capacity and equipment to handle all of your Duplex 2205 projects.
The Duplex 2205 alloy is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex stainless steel alloy. The nitrogen serves to significantly improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy; especially in the welded condition. The usually high Cr, Mo and Ni contents of AL 2205 alloy give it a high PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) of 35.8, further enhancing its corrosion resistance. The PREN of AL 2205 alloy exceeds those of types 316L and 317L stainless steels. When heat-treated properly, the composition of AL 2205 alloy creates a micro-structure that consists of a nearly equal mixture of austenite and ferrite phases. The micro-structure and composition of the Duplex 2205 Butt Weld Fitting provides corrosion resistance to many environments that is superior to Types 316 or 317, and a minimum yield strength that is more than double that of conventional austenitic stainless steels. The micro-structure and phase balance of Duplex 2205 alloy have been designed to facilitate the production of pipe and tube products. All AL 2205 Butt Weld Fitting are metallographically examined to make sure that the as-shipped product is essentially released from the presence of detrimental precipitate phases such as sigma.
