Basic types of flange are Alloy flange, Steel flange, duplex flange, carbon flange etc. other types. Flange are joined to each other and joined to piping system by threading or welding. The Flange is designed in various pressure rates.

Flange Facings:

  1. Raised Face : Pressure is established on smaller gasket have thus increase the pressure capability of the joint. Flange designed under 300lbs pressure class has 1.6 mm raised face height and 6.44 mm for flanges over 400lbs and 2500lbs pressure class as per ANSI/ASME B16.5. Raised face is easy to identify and is most applied flange facing type.
  1. Tongue & Groove : Valve bonnets and flanges pump covers are prominently found. To create any flange joint none of the facing should be interconnected. These types of flanges are used for high pressure applications and high temperature work. Tongue & Groove Flanges must also be matched like Male-Female. Mating flange gas a matching depression or groove are having a flange raised ring called tongue machined into the face.
  1. Ring Type Joint (RTJ) : A Ring type joint have applications with “initial line contact” mechanism served by metallic ring gaskets which are applied for high temperature application and high pressure. A steel ring gasket between two same Ring type Joint facing and tight seal is formed when the bolt is tightened. Any part of sealing is not served with a ring groove that have a raised face.
  1. Male & Female : Matching depression or grove is machined to create locking mechanism in its face. High pressure and high temperature services like heat exchanger and boiler assemblies are commonly used by Male Female joint flanges. Male & Female Grooved Flanges should always be matched. Other flange gas has a matching depression machined in face to crate mechanism.
  1. Flat Face(FF) : Raised face should be removed before installation if required, if not, then it will result in shutting down the process and damage will be caused. Against a raised face or any other face flat face flanges are never bolted. Flat facings produced from castings or fiberglass are applied to flange ends. Just as similar to bolting surface flat face flanges have gasket surface.

The most common facings machined on Flanges are:

Raised face,1/16 inch for 150lb and 300lb 1/4th inch for 400lb and bulkier.

Flat face, for 150lb and 300lb only, other may be flat face on request.

Production process of Flanges are as follows:

The raw material production is subject to heat treatment for optimum use of dye for further processes. The making of flanges is based on dimensions specified in ANSI Standards without the addition of hub or with the addition of hub in it.

  1. Stock Finish : This is practically suitable for flanges under all ordinary service conditions. Under bolting compression, helps create a high level of friction and a seal is created between the mating surfaces. This is most widely used.
  1. Spiral Serrated : Spiral Serrated finish is photographic spiral or continuous groove, but differs from stock finish, typically generated in that groove is 90-degree due to which “V” geometry 45 degree angled serration in flanges.
  1. Concentric Serrated : Concentric Grooves are comprised in the Concentric Serrated finish. 90 degree angle tool is used for serrating and spacing evenly across Flanges.
  1. Smooth Finish : Depending on the flatness of the opposing faces the smooth surfaces mate to create a seal. Gasket contact surface formed by a continuous spiral groove is typically achieved. No visual apparent tool markings are shown if smoothing finishing is done. Gaskets with metal facings such as corrugated metal and double jacketed flat steel are typically utilized.

Various Types of Flanges that we offer are as follows:

Weld neck flanges : In these types of flanges there will be no restriction of product flow. Excellent stress distribution through the tapered hub and for flaw detection are easily radio graphed. To a pipe or fitting with single full penetration this flange type is welded. The inside diameter of mating fitting is bored to match flanges so that there is no restriction of product flow. Due to which turbulence at the joint and reduces erosion is prevented.

Slip on flange : With two fillet welds connection of pipe is done, even on the inside and outside of the flange. There is no possibility of combination of flange and tee and flange and elbow, because there is no straight end of named fittings that can complete slid in the Slip on flange. A slip on flange under internal pressure is of the order of two-thirds of welding neck flanges and their life in fatigue is one-third of the latter.

Socket Weld Flange : Small size high pressure piping bearing Socket Weld Flanges were initially developed. Static strength of Socket weld fittings is equal to slip on flanges. Fatigue strength is 50% greater than double welded slip on flanges.

Threaded Flange : Main advantage of threaded flanges is that they can be attached to pipe without welding. These Flanges are used for special circumstances. In some situations seal weld is also used in conjunction for threaded connection.

Lap Joint Flange : These flanges are not welded and are slip over the pipe. Same common dimensions are consisted in Lap Joint flanges as other flanges but it does not raise face, these are used to conjunct in “Lap joint stub end”. They have very less pressure holding ability. Lap joint flange is available in a full size range and can be used under all pressures.

Advantages of Lap Joint Flange are as follows:

  • Flanges can salvage for re-use in systems which corrode or erode quickly.
  • Lining up of opposing flange bolt holes have freedom of swiveling around the pipe.
  • Use of Inexpensive carbon steel flanges with corrosion resistant pipe is permitted when there is a lack of contact with the fluid in the pipe.

Blind FlangeWithout a bore blind flanges are manufactured and are used to blank off the ends of piping, pressure vessel openings and valves. Highly stressed flange types are larger in size and from the standpoint of internal pressure. These valves are suited for high pressure temperature applications.
